The star has handed over the entirety of his £25k award cash to the trust for venues, which works to protect the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

He was presented with the award on mid-October as his new release People Watching was named the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages had in his initial steps.

"As an artist would not have achieved what I am doing today if it weren't for all the gigs I did around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, top acts including the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also participated, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across the UK.

The money assisted venues that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from floods, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces were granted monetary aid in modernizing infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and audiences.

"The notion that revenue from performances in major spaces helps the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

Fender is among several artists to donate his award winnings to worthy causes.

Back when they earned the prize in the mid-90s for their release their work, vocalist the singer declared that the act would donate their prize money to the organization War Child.

That year, rapper and singer she split her award across a few good causes, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I donated a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," the artist explained to the media.

In recent years, the band gave their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And 1994 winners they contributed their prize to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"The victory was ample," remarked singer Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our success impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the MVT shared it had protected two local spots in the South East, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the other in that location were bought under the public acquisition program, which is supported by the arts council and enthusiasts who purchase "stakes" in the venues.
