Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then found multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
